Welcome to my online portfolio

Take a look at some of my recent projects, what has inspired me as well as older work!

I am passionate about painting, with elements of detailed drawing. My main inspiration is from artists including Hanna Jaeun and Miho Hirano as well as movies and books that I grew up with, including the fantasy worlds of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Labyrinth and The Hobbit. Similarly, I love the work of Brian Froud, for his conceptual designs for the Labyrinth as well as his illustrations for the 1978 book Faeries with Alan Lee.

During my A Levels I chose a project looking at traditional oil paintings and influenced by artists including Rosetti, Da Vinci and Hopper. I created a final piece of my own inspired by these artists and stories from Greek mythology.

Teaching myself to use oil paints and starting to use them regularly was the best thing I have done for my skills so far; I feel that it took my art to a much higher level of realism and depth and I am constantly figuring out new techniques and ways of using them that keep my work improving and expanding.

Photography has also had a major impact on my creative journey. I studied it at A Level and loved taking mainly portraits that explored the depth of light and shadow.

I then went on to use these images within my artwork, this was another huge help to my skills and taught me about looking at the realism of the skin and how light and shadow reflects off the face. I loved that I was able to combine both of my main interests and use them within each other and it made my work much more personal.

During my Foundation course I have really expanded my skills and experimented with different techniques and media, including using inks, life drawing and landscapes. This has really opened me up to want to push my practice further and be more adventurous. I have always been a bit of a perfectionist but now I feel I am at a stage where I want to be free to make mistakes and learn from them, not be steered into doing something I’m not fully passionate about. I’m ready to take my art to another level where I do things I never thought I could and this is what I think fine art painting at Brighton could do for me, along with access to a vibrant, exciting studio space, (where the work I saw on an open day filled me with admiration), the ability to have more freedom creatively excited me so along with connecting with other student artists and working with them and the lecturers being professional artists.

In the future I would love to be able to exhibit my work in creative spaces that could hopefully influence others as well as show off my achievements artistically.

Art is what I love to do and will always be a part of my life, and now I am ready to fully explore how far I can take it.

Project 1

PERSEPHONE

This is one of my favourite oil painting projects to date, I based it on a self portrait I took, I was heavily inspired by traditional oil paintings and artists such as Rosetti and Hanna Jaeun.

PROCESS

Here you can see I experimented with different concepts and practiced painting the face multiple times before I created the final version.

Project 2

Experiments from an older project using oils, these practices were actually some of the pieces where I really started to notice my skills improving with painting. I used reference photos from one of my own photoshootsand tried to work in as much detail as I could.

Project 3

This was my first design idea for this topic, I loved the outcome and it inspired me to experiment further with possible final piece ideas.

This is my most recent project I have been working on in my foundation year, as seen here I have been experimenting with inks, oil and acrylic on fabrics, making these more creative and messy backgrounds has been a new experience for me that I have enjoyed the process of a lot and found my own way of incorporating my personal style by adding detailed pen sketches over the top.

This is a small mock up of my final piece I am working towards creating, I combined all of the aspects I have been experimenting with into one piece to show off all of my skills.

This project was inspired by the Copernican revolution , I wanted to use this to create a piece where I personified the sun and used it as the subject, the background and detailing is representing space and I was inspired by scientific photos of galaxies and the sky that I saw at the Greenwich observatory.
